Clarke, Virginia Criminal Law Case Finder (the Michie Company). An excellent and logical index is probably the best Virginia books. It lends itself to ready access to information during trial. Sells for about $80.00.

Georgetown Law Journal, Criminal Procedure Project, 600 New Jersey Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001, tel: (202) 624-8230. This once a year book provides the status of Supreme Court and U.S. law on every aspect of arrest, search, seizure and trial. It is well indexed with numerous annotations. If anyone plans to be serious about constitutional law in criminal cases they must buy this book. It does not lend itself to use in the courtroom; it is too cumbersome and the print is too small. But as a resource book for the desk and office, it is one of the best. Costs about $15.00.

Prisoner Petitions in the Fourth Circuit, The office of Staff Counsel, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Richmond, Virginal. This book, looseleaf, is prepared once a year by the clerks of the Fourth Circuit. It provides a practioner with the status of many constitutional issues as they pertain to criminal trial work in Virginia with Fourth Circuit Cases. Do not think that just because you do not writs that the book has no value to you. It fully covers the status of identifications, self-incrimination, arrest, search and seizure, fair trial and right to counsel. The index is brief and logical and it has a table of cases in the back which will enable you to determine the Fourth Circuit status of recognized cases, such as Miranda or Gideon.
